Skills
Event Management
I am experienced at programming and time-tabling outdoor events, particularly
school camps. I have organised the staff, programme and logistics for
camps of up to 200 people.
Risk Management
Keeping students and staff safe, while providing adventurous experiences
is a passion of mine and I keep up-to-date with New Zealand and overseas
research. I am a qualified and active risk management instructor for
Mountain Safety Council. I have a depth of experience in writing and
monitoring risk management policies for Orton Bradley Outdoor Education
Centre, Department of Conservation and Riccarton High School.
Abseiling and Rock climbing
I passed NZOIA Rock 1 in 1996 and have since taken groups abseiling
and rock climbing on a range of natural and purpose-built sites from
Kokiri West Coast, Port Hills and Orton Bradley Park. I have worked
for Rock and Ice Ltd and Full On as an abseiling guide in winter of
2003 and 2004 at Redcliffs, Rakaia, and 2007 in Assisi, Italy
Kayaking
I am a confident kayaker up to grade IV. I worked for several seasons
as a rescue kayaker on the Arnold River Grade II
Mountaineering
Climbed up to grade 3, including Mount Cook in 1999.
Bush Craft and navigation
I have Mountain Safety Council Bush 1. I am extremely experienced in
taking groups into the bush. Personal experience includes many days
tramping, including 107-day traverse of the South Island. I continue
to tramp regularly.
Environmental interpretation
I am passionate about interpreting the historic, natural and geological
environment which groups experience. With a degree in history, a teaching
diploma and a background in Visitor Interpretation with Department of
Conservation I am keen to develop ways of exciting others about the
environment and New Zealand's history.

Outdoor Education Teacher.

I spent four months as part of a team of nine volunteers and four specialist
staff on the remote, sub-tropical Raoul Island. Our main tasks were
controlling exotic species and general maintenance of the base.
